LHS - Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa Sp. z o.o. freight trains
Since 2001 the line has been managed by the company PKP Broad-Gauge Metallurgy Line, Ltd. (LHS) on the basis of a concession granted by Minister of Transport and Maritime Economy for managing and performing freight service. At the end of 70th a broad-gauge railway line was built especially for needs of the then metallurgical giant - Katowice Steelworks and Tarnobrzeg Sulphurfield. Therefore, it was called as metallurgy-sulphur line from kind of commodities dominating in freight traffic served by the line. This broad-gauge track led from the border crossing with Ukraine - Hrubieszów/Izov having its ending in Sławków near Katowice, total length of the line amounted to almost 400 km. It is still the longest track with gauge 1520 mm reaching nearly centre of the country. Station Sławków Południowy located at the ending of the broad-gauge metallurgy line has gained a strategic significance from the time, when building of logistic centre was taken into consideration in this area. Here, in the interface point of tracks with two gauges, majority of cargoes transported along the line is reloaded. From here, after transhipment operations, transport of goods is planned from Polish to European economic centres. The broad-gauge line can become a part of Euro-Asian transport corridor with making use of the railway Trans-Siberian Main Line.
